Zanzibar: much more than a paradise beach

Warm water, white sand and the colours of the Indian Ocean make it easy to see why a Zanzibar trip often begins with a beach photograph. But there is much more to discover.

The archipelago brings together Swahili culture, history, spices and nature. On a first visit, I like the idea of combining time to explore with enough days simply to enjoy the coast.

Stone Town deserves a place in the itinerary. Its narrow streets and African, Arab, Persian and European influences tell a different story from the beach resorts. The spice plantations offer another connection to the island often called the Spice Island.

For a richer contrast, consider Safari + Zanzibar: wildlife experiences in Tanzania followed by rest beside the Indian Ocean. September and October fall within Zanzibar’s main dry season and can be good months to visit.

There is no single formula. We can focus entirely on Zanzibar, add a safari, include Stone Town, plan a romantic honeymoon or choose a hotel for a restful stay.

One dream. One journey. One story.

This journey could be your next story.
